Danzas Burgalesas Justo del Río

Born in Burgos in 1895, he became a member of the Burgos's Choir and with the guidance of Master Antonio José, he discovered fot rhe first time the ages-old music and dance of his homeland. In 1940 he started his field work helped in the music aspect by Masters Amoreti and Sarmiento. As a result of his investigations a great repertoire formed by more of 70 dances.

This uncessing work moved him to be a dance teacher at the Town Hall Schook of Music, director of the dances group of the Burgos's Ghoir, teacher at "Sección Femenina's Group" and artistic director of "Dances from Castilla". In 1959, he published a book about typical dances in Burgos, where he included choreographies, dances, dresses and music.

In 1968, the culmination of his work is reflected in the creation of the new ensemble which bears his name. Mr. Justo del Río has received many awards as a form of gratitude for his work. Besides these official awards, it is important to stand out the love that all his students and fellow countryman professed to him. Even more, it is important to recognize that if any folklore is dances today in Burgos, the very existence of this folk is due in great part to him. Otherwise, this blend of culture and tradition would have been lost several generations ago. Today, Burgos dances thanks to an exceptional master: Justo del Río.
